Policy review belongs in the creative process
▾
Waiting until campaign setup to review policy creates the worst kind of deadline: the one where the media plan is ready and the creative is not. Review the claims, landing page, offer, and audience while the team can still make a clean edit.
Snapchat says it reviews ads for policy compliance before approval, restricts some categories by age, and provides tools for controlling placement and content adjacency.1 Treat those as production inputs, not a final obstacle.
Review the claim
▾
- Is the claim truthful, specific, and supportable?
- Does the visual imply a guarantee?
- Are before-and-after results given necessary context?
- Does the offer match the landing page?
- Are qualifications and disclosures readable?
- Could urgency or financial language create a misleading impression?
Do not use small text as a way to rescue a large misleading claim. Rewrite the claim until the main message can survive a clear reading.
Review the placement
▾
Placement matters. Sponsored Snaps, for example, list restrictions on offer-based ads with specific discounts or promotions, exclude Health, Employment, and Credit categories, and require a linked Public Profile.2 Restrictions vary by account, region, and program version, so confirm the current rules before committing a media plan to the placement.
Build for the placement you can actually run, not the one the brief assumed before eligibility was checked. If the placement changes, the creative decision changes with it.
Review brand safety
▾
Snapchat offers content-adjacency controls for curated Discover content, selected publisher content, or broader inventory. Snapchat also says its full-screen video ads do not share the screen with other content.1
Choose the brand-safety posture before launch:
- Broad reach with standard protections.
- Curated publisher adjacency.
- Specific content exclusions.
- Age-based suitability controls.
- Restricted-category compliance review.
Pre-flight checklist
▾
- Claims are supportable and non-misleading.
- Required disclosures are visible and readable.
- Creative and landing page tell the same story.
- Product, price, promotion, and eligibility terms align.
- Format safe zones protect essential information.
- Placement-specific restrictions have been reviewed.
- Audience age and category restrictions are satisfied.
- Public Profile requirements are complete where required.
- Brand-safety settings match the campaign's risk tolerance.
- Legal or compliance owners reviewed regulated offers.
The Ad Bench can help flag creative clarity and risk patterns before launch. It does not replace legal review, platform policy review, or required regulatory approval.
Compliance note: Platform policies and advertising rules change. This guide is educational, not legal advice. Confirm current requirements in applicable platform documentation and consult qualified counsel for endorsement disclosures, regulated claims, and sensitive categories.
