Chat is a different creative environment
▾
Sponsored Snaps are full-screen image or video ads delivered in Snapchat's Chat Feed. They use a native Snap-like treatment, recipients can reply, and brands can enable an auto-response.1
That context changes the tone. A direct, useful message is a better starting point than a product commercial built for a distant audience. The ad can still sell. It just needs to earn the right to interrupt a communication surface.
Lead like a message
▾
Useful openers are concise and specific:
- “We made this because you asked.”
- “Your early access is live.”
- “A faster way to do this just dropped.”
- “Three things we changed after your feedback.”
- “If you use [category], you will want to see this.”
The tone is human without fake intimacy. Do not pretend the brand is a friend. Say what changed, why it matters, and what the person can do next.
Keep the asset short
▾
Snapchat allows Sponsored Snaps up to 180 seconds and recommends keeping them under 10 seconds.1 Treat that recommendation as a design constraint: one update, one payoff, one action.
If the explanation needs more room, use the placement as the invitation and continue the story after the tap. Do not spend the opening seconds explaining why the viewer should keep watching.
Build the response path
▾
Snapchat lists three optional message-design elements:1
- Branded Chat Background: 1080×1920 image.
- Chat Message: up to 500 characters.
- Auto-Response: up to 500 characters or a video response.
Do not use all three because they exist. Use the minimum needed to help the person continue. A message adds context. An auto-response helps when the next step benefits from an immediate answer. A background earns its place only if it reinforces the message.
Requirements and limits
▾
Confirm these before building a Chat-specific asset:
- A Snap Ads account.
- A linked Public Profile.
- Vertical 9:16 image or video creative.
- A clear CTA.
- Placement eligibility for the category and offer.
Snapchat lists exclusions for competitive social or messaging platforms, offer-based ads with specific discounts or promotions, and Health, Employment, or Credit categories.1 Eligibility, availability, and restrictions vary by account, region, and program version. Check the current policy before promising a launch date.
Bench check
▾
- Does the opener sound like a useful brand message?
- Can the viewer understand the update or payoff in under 10 seconds?
- Is there one clear CTA?
- Does the message path make sense after the tap or reply?
- Is the campaign eligible for Chat Feed placement?
- Is the Public Profile linked and useful as a destination?
