Use this structure:
For this audience and objective, we believe [creative change] will improve [specific outcome] because [reason].
Example: for cold Snapchat prospects, we believe opening with the product result instead of a founder introduction will improve qualified video attention because the benefit is visible before the viewer has to care who is speaking.
Test the most important layer first
▾
- Hook: first frame, first claim, first visual event.
- Proof: demo, testimonial, comparison, result, or product use.
- Structure: order of hook, context, proof, and action.
- CTA: requested next action and timing.
- Platform execution: pacing, text, framing, sound-off behavior, and placement adaptation.
- Offer: price, trial, bundle, incentive, or product framing.
Do not reshoot the full campaign until you know which layer is failing. A targeted revision makes the next decision cheaper and clearer.
The five-hook test
▾
Keep the body of the ad broadly stable and produce five distinct openings:
- Contrarian claim.
- Visible problem.
- Product in motion.
- Proof-first result.
- Creator or founder direct address.
This gives you a meaningful read on why the audience may choose to watch, rather than five variants that differ only in punctuation.
Diagnose performance in sequence
▾
| If you see… | Investigate first |
|---|---|
| Weak initial attention | First frame, visual hook, message clarity. |
| Attention but weak deeper viewing | Story structure, pacing, proof timing. |
| Strong viewing but weak action | Offer relevance, CTA, landing-page continuity. |
| Strong clicks but weak conversion | Audience, landing page, offer, tracking, or checkout. |
| Performance falls after early success | Fatigue, repeated exposure, new creative competition. |
A creative score can prioritize likely creative risks. It cannot see every factor affecting auction delivery or conversion behavior. Use it to choose the next hypothesis, not as a substitute for measurement.
The Ad Bench methodology: The layer ordering and diagnostic sequence above reflect The Ad Bench's current scoring rubric and creative-review approach. They are designed to identify creative risk before media spend, not predict or guarantee campaign performance.
